Lovely sterling silver full hunter made by Elgin watch Co. The nickel split plate movement is a model 6 grade 386 with 17 jewels featuring a jewelled Swiss lever escapement with double roller and a "Moseley" travelling nut micro-regulator. A nice quality movement that was serviced in May 2020. It runs nicely and keeps very good time.
The watch is stem wind and stem set, both functions working well. The beautifully engraved Sterling silver case is American so does not carry hall marks as we know them, but it is marked inside the covers 0.925 fine Sterling (please see photos). The case is in fine condition with just a couple of very minor dings to the covers.
The engravings are all good but do show signs of age related smoothing. The case has hinged front/rear and internal dust covers, all the hinges are good and operate smoothly. The front cover lifting spring is not working so the cover has to be lifted manually whilst pressing the crown, and it opens to a few degrees beyond 90.
The cover retaining spring is good and does hold the cover closed so the crown has to be pressed to release it. All in all a good case for the era. The single sunk white enamel dial is in as new condition with no flaws that I can see. The hands are very good as is the acrylic crystal.
Overall a very nice solid silver hunter pocket watch that runs really well.
